Challenge
Bumi Rapak village in East Kutai has rice fields with real tourism potential, but the local farmer group lacked the infrastructure and skills to manage visitors. PT Ganda Alam Makmur saw an opportunity to develop rice-field agrotourism as an additional livelihood source for the Bhuana Sari farmer group. The challenge was building agrotourism sustainably, without disrupting core farming activity.
What we did
Our team facilitated the development of sustainable rice-field agrotourism in Bumi Rapak, supporting the Bhuana Sari farmer group through basic infrastructure and tourism-awareness training. The engagement prepared farmers to welcome and serve visitors. The project was the first phase of the REAP series in Bumi Rapak with PT Ganda Alam Makmur.
Outcome
The Bhuana Sari farmer group now has basic infrastructure and tourism-awareness skills to run rice-field agrotourism in Bumi Rapak. The phase opened an additional livelihood source beyond core farming income. REAP 1's results paved the way for REAP 2, which focused on institutional strengthening.
