Challenge

Adaro needed a comprehensive social mapping exercise across 23 villages in its operational area in West Kutai and Mahakam Ulu, East Kalimantan, to inform planning for community development programs. Conventional social mapping often stops at demographic data without connecting it to a broader sustainable-development framework. The company needed an approach that integrated international standards so the results would hold up for ESG reporting.

What we did

Our team carried out comprehensive social mapping across 23 villages, integrating the SDGs framework and ESG good practice into the data-collection methodology. The mapping produced socio-economic village profiles that formed the basis for Adaro's subsequent program planning. The work covered West Kutai and Mahakam Ulu.

Outcome

Adaro gained a comprehensive social dataset aligned with the SDGs and ESG frameworks across its 23 operational villages. The mapping results became a reference point for planning the next round of community-development programs. The project strengthened our experience in large-scale social mapping for corporate mining clients.
