Challenge

Indigenous communities in West Papua held real enterprise potential, but preparing business plans that were financially sound and culturally accountable was still new ground. The Samdhana Institute needed training that went beyond teaching a business-plan format — it also had to safeguard ecological and cultural responsibility in every plan. The core challenge was translating conventional business concepts into a context relevant to the community.

What we did

Our team designed specialized business-plan training for indigenous communities, paired with direct technical assistance. The materials were built so every business plan carried cultural and ecological responsibility alongside financial projections. The engagement ran intensively with the Samdhana Institute in West Papua throughout 2022.

Outcome

Partner communities produced more viable, ready-to-run business plans that accounted for local culture and environment. The training extended our collaboration with the Samdhana Institute following the earlier sustainable-livelihood program. Hands-on technical assistance proved to help communities actually implement their plans, not just file them away.
